The description of (BOC)2O(Boc Anhydride)

(BOC)2O(Boc Anhydride) tends to decompose a little on accumulator (and it melts about allowance temperature – it’s a affliction chipping abroad at a slab of melted-refrozen stuff). So we accumulate it in the fridge. Additionally, it comes in abundant big bottles – it’s not abounding of the stuff; you charge a little headspace for carbon dioxide gas. It comes as admirable melty bright crystals, affectionate of like soft-cornered bedrock bonbon with actual baby crystals. That is, unless you accumulate it on your bench, in which case it doesn’t go (totally) bad, but it will apparently cook a bit, depending on the weather. Then, you’re ashore chipping abroad at it with a metal spatula.Boc2O, or “boc anhydride,” is one of my favorites. Using it on your amine will crop a “boc adequate amine.” Upon acerbic deprotection, it yields the ancestor amine, carbon dioxide, and t-butylene. The closing two are both gases, which gives about as simple a cleanup as you could achievement for (that’s the botheration with these attention groups; you accept to get rid of them somehow). Using (BOC)2O(Boc Anhydride) will catechumen an amine into a carbamide that won’t acknowledge with (as many) things, acceptance you to plan able (or at atomic beneath fettered) on added chunks of whatever atom you’re absorbed in. Attention groups are choosy things and don’t consistently plan as you expect. As Derek Lowe mentions in his post, it’s affectionate of like a section of appearance tape. He doesn’t go on to explain it further, but the affinity is apt – they’re not bolts, and are decumbent to abatement apart. Such is allure – it’s the best we’ve got! At atomic it’s fun to say boc (pronounced like “bock”).
